Resumen

This article describes five points for reflection on historical movies beyond the purpose of documental usage. Textbooks guided towards “how to use” movies for teaching are based on “dated” academic debates. Films with historical themes establish dialogues with traditions of representations of the themes. Historical movies may also be analyzed as Adaptation; Historical themes in Brazilian productions are socially meaningful besides a movie may bring historically valid analyses.
