Federalism: the American experience of a concept (1820-1835)

Resumen

This article highlights the federalist projects in the 1820s and 1830s in imperial Brazil. Firstly, in the specific context of the Independence and the Constitution of 1823, the text examines the proposals submitted by the congressmen and the effects observed in reviews from the press. Secondly, by using the same source, it analyzes the campaign for the review of constitutional provisions restricting the autonomy of the provinces between the years 1829 and 1834.
