Jesuit Modernity and the History of the Future by Antonio Vieira

Resumen

This article argues that in some of Antonio Vieira (1608-1697)’s writings, more precisely in this History of the Future, it would be possible to visualize an interesting dialogue between one of the best neoscholastic formulations and the new XVII century philosophy and science, questioning as well interpretations that draw a radical dichotomy between Jesuit thought and Descartes’s philosophy and Galileo’s science.
