Abstract

The article discusses how the September 11 attacks represent an important turning point in the history of the American conservative movement. The American right, which in the 1960s and 1970s found points of convergence between its different currents, began to fragment with the strengthening of the neoconservatives in the 1980s. The article seeks to analyze how this process, which was rehearsed before the end of the Cold War , was accelerated by George W. Bush's response to terrorist attacks and allowed political forces such as populism to move from the margins to the center of the political debate.
