Abstract

Introduction: Health Technology Assessment (HTA) plays a key role in improving clinical and managerial decision-making in public hospitals. Objective: This study analyzes the impact of recommendations issued by the Health Technology Assessment Center (NATS) of the Hospital das Clínicas at the Federal University of Pernambuco (HC-UFPE) on the incorporation of technologies between 2019 and 2025. The objective was to characterize the profile of the assessed technologies, the level of evidence used in the recommendations, and the factors influencing their implementation within the institution. Material and Methods/Methods/Case Report or Experience Report: This is a documentary and retrospective study that examined 16 technical-scientific reports based on criteria such as type of technology, robustness of scientific evidence, technical justifications, and institutional outcomes. Results: Results showed that 62.5% of the recommendations were favorable, mostly supported by systematic reviews, randomized clinical trials, and cost-effectiveness analyses. However, only 40% of the recommended technologies were formally incorporated, and just 60% were effectively in use by the end of the study. Administrative, financial, and cultural barriers were identified as limiting the effectiveness of HTA, even when supported by high-quality evidence. Conclusion:  It is concluded that, although NATS/HC-UFPE plays a strategic technical role in supporting hospital management, its influence depends on the integration between technical assessment, institutional decision-making, and implementation mechanisms.
