Heródoto, o primeiro historiador, e a criação de uma dicotomia

Resumo

Este artigo investiga a origem da dicotomia entre gregos e bárbaros na obra Histórias, de Heródoto, analisando as raízes mitológicas e homéricas no texto, assim como o contexto sociopolítico do século V a.C., quando foi produzido. A partir de uma revisão bibliográfica e análise de fontes primárias, argumenta-se que a dicotomia entre esses dois povos, perpetrada por Heródoto, foi uma projeção retrospectiva da oposição cultural entre gregos e persas após as Guerras Greco-Persas, inserida no mito da Guerra de Troia, do qual o autor se via como continuador. Observa-se que essa categorização teve papel fundamental na construção da identidade helênica e no pensamento historiográfico subsequente. Conclui-se que o estudo da formação dessa divisão revela a influência dessa oposição entre gregos e bárbaros em autores basilares do pensamento ocidental.
