Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the revocation process of Aliança Nacional Renovadora National Renewal Alliance – ARENA, in Portuguese acronym members’ legitimacies and political rights in Paraíba during 1969. ARENA was a political party created by the 1964 dictatorship’s supporters and used to represent the interests of the regime in public institutions. Through the minutes of the Conselho de Segurança Nacional (National Security Council – CSN, in Portuguese acronym and using what was published in the newspapers circulating in Paraíba, we will analyze the reasons that led the dictatorship to expel members from its allied base, apprehending both their performance in public institutions and their trajectories in the party's internal organization.
