Abstract

This study relates the Literatures written by African-descendants  in the United States and in Brazil, focusing on the artistic and cultural movement known as “The Black Arts Movement”, which revolved the African-American activists and artist’s  thoughts between the 1960´s and 1070´s. analyzing   texts oriented by the politics of re-centering and  re-signifying that epoch´s black identity I take into account the theoretical and critical  apparatus, cultural practices and ideological positions by Barbour (1968);  Watson (1985); Gates Jr. (1997, 1998); Coon (1998); Gomes (1999); Liebig (1999, 2003); Gonçalves & Silva (2006), Kuenz (2007); Gardner (2009); Johnson (2013); Rios & Lima, (2020), whose vision is based in  a disrupted angle from the white hegemony. It comes out from the research the constatation of the political power of the movement as the main vehicle for the black´s consciousness about  their social condition and the desire to put themselves in the center of the das decisions about their lives and civil conquers.
