Considered the biggest global health problem, non-communicable chronic diseases (NCCDs) are the major part of morbidity and mortality in Brazil today and have common risk factors, which allows for a similar preventive approach. Knowing that the school is a fundamental place for health promotion, this article aims to report the experience of a university extension project, carried out with elementary school students, in two public schools in the city of Juiz de Fora - MG, in the years from 2018 and 2019. Expositive and dynamic classes were held on the systems of the human body and their relationship with NCCDs, with a questionnaire being applied at the beginning and end of the intervention, in order to assess the performance and understanding of students. Descriptive statistics were performed with absolute, minimum and maximum values, means and percentages. After that, it was possible to verify that the students obtained a significant improvement in performance not only in the questionnaire, but also in the social sphere, as the exchange of knowledge between students and academics was noticeable, which provided a dynamic and favorable environment for learning.
