The aim of the study was to identify the prevalence of sleeping medication among health public workers at Diamantina country city and the factors associated with consumption. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out with 257 health workers. The data collection was between December 2016 and March 2017, through a structured interview. The associations between covariables and the use of sleeping drugs were analyzed using Poisson regression with robust variance. The prevalence of sleeping drugs (15.3%) was higher than that reported in other populations, being significantly associated with older age, higher schooling, work contract, inadequate sleep and medical diagnosis of depression. Interventions aimed at the early identification of environmental and organizational factors related to the mental symptoms and greater awareness of the deleterious effects of consumption is recommended.
