Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires patient self-care and continuous support to avoid acute and long-term complications. The study aimed to point out self-care adherence strategies applied to DM patients in Primary Health Care (PHC). It is an integrative review carried out from the Cinahl, Pubmed Central, Scopus and Web of Science databases, with the inclusion of articles published between 2017 and 2021, without language delimitation. After searching the scientific literature, 11 studies were selected for analysis. The main strategies identified were: educational groups, motivational interview, home visits, sending messages via smartphone, Conversation Map, telephone monitoring and use of a mobile application. It is noteworthy that the use of these strategies enhances the protagonism of patients and encourages the praxis of nurses working in PHC.
