Abstract

The aim of this study was to analyze the perception of oral health and the causes of school dropout of public education in municipal and state Araucaria - PR. The sample consisted of 624 students from 10 to 18 years of basic education for adolescents 5th to 8th grades. Were applied questionnaires containing questions about the perception of oral health of students and the reasons that led out of the dental treatment offered by the Health Units of the council. The results showed that young people know some important issues such as transferability of caries (49.8%), as that is the plaque (54.8%) and where to find the fluorine (32.2% ), and 43.4% of respondents believe that fluoride is found only in dentifrices. After analyzing the data, it was concluded that adolescents have a perception of good oral health and stand out as causes of avoidance to dental treatment among others: the low education of parents and the resistance of schools to receive the teams of oral health for the implementation of the actions of health education.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
