Popular education and social movements: building interaction between university and community

The related work was part of an extension project that aimed at the approach of the students of the diverse courses of health area of the UFJF with the community, through the popular education interacting with the social movements of Santa Luzia and Ipiranga neighborhoods, in the South region of <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Juiz de Fora. One of the concerns of the team was to collaborate with the popular classes in the discussion of its rights through the agreement and confrontation of its problems. It foresees the complementation of ethical and humanistic, critical and transforming formation of the students and to awake them for the social responsibility. The study is quanti-qualitative nature. Questionnaires half-structuralized had been applied to the leaders of the social movements. The results had evidenced that the main objectives of the movements are: human promotion and assistencialism; the development of leisure and culture, the donation of food and various articles. They would like to extend the assistencialism actions, the professional training offered and the cultural activities. They possess good insertion in the community and present partnerships with religious and educational institutions. After the analysis of the diagnosis of the movements, it will be carried the second phase of the project, with the movement “Dama-da-noite”, that it consists of the construction and accomplishment of the project of popular education, promoting the interaction university-community.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
