Resumo

In the present paper, we analyzed the population structure of 213 specimens (160 females and 53 males) of Prochilodus cearensis (Steindachner, 1911) sampled trimestrially in Itanas Dam, Caicó,
Rio Grande do Norte, between March 1996 and February 1997. It was determined for each specimen the standard length and total weight. Gender was identified through a ventral abdominal incision. The sexual ratio was 3 females per 1 male. Adult females
are greater than males, varying in length from 19 to 25 cm, whereas male varied from 19,0 to 21,0 cm. The weight/standard length relationship demonstrated a growth of an allometric type (q = 2,7667 ).
