8) A direcionalidade no relacionamento semântico: um estudo de potênciais bioelétricos relacionados a eventos lingüísticos (ERP)

Inglês: Contrasting with connectionist predictionsthat the semantic relationship between two separate words is merely associative, this study aims at testing the hypothesis that the semantic relationship between certain words might be mediated by a syntactic structure that pops up spontaneously during priming. Several series of word pairs were tested including two in which the words were identical but were presented in opposite directions (the prime in one is the target in the other). If the hypothesis about syntactic mediation were right, there should be a difference between activation times connected to directionality. In fact, ERP analysis revealed differences among the series connected with directionality among other syntactic factors.Keywords: Lexical access, Directionality, Semantic priming, Event related brain potentials (ERPs).


Tradução: Em contraste com previsões conexionistas de que a relação entre duas palavras soltas seria fruto de mera associação semântica, este estudo tem como hipótese que certas relações entre duas palavras são mediadas por uma estrutura sintática que surge espontaneamente no momento da exposição à situação de priming. Foram incluídas varias séries de pares prime-alvo, sendo duas delas idênticas, apenas com direcionalidades inversas (oprime em uma série é o alvo na outra). Se a hipótese sobre a mediação sintática estivesse certa, haveria diferença entre o tempo de ativação de alvos em uma ou outra direção. De fato a análise dos ERPs revelou diferenças entre as séries, ligadas à direcionalidade e também a outros fatores sintáticos.
