6) Um estudo sobre a representação mental da polissemia: procedimentos metodológicos em um teste de memória

Inglês: In this study, we investigated the mental representation of polysemous words. Our method was the replication of a memory test from Klein and Murphy (2001), in which subjects saw a polysemous word twice, in phrases that could use the same sense of this word or a different sense. We aimed to investigate if the different senses of a polysemous word are represented separately, or if there is only a core meaning in the mental lexicon. In our study, there was no significant difference between the same-sense condition and the different-sense condition, while this difference was significant in the original experiment. From this observation, we discuss some methodological questions, including the strength and the type of sense relations involved.

Tradução: Neste trabalho, investigamos a representação mental de itens polissêmicos. O método utilizado foi a replicação de um teste de memória de Klein e Murphy (2001), em que os participantes viam uma palavra polissêmica duas vezes, em contextos que poderiam utilizar o mesmo sentido ou um sentido diferente da palavra. Objetivamos investigar se os diferentes sentidos deuma palavra são representados distintamente ou se há apenas um significado central no léxico mental. Em nosso estudo, não houve diferença significativa entre a condição de mesmo sentido e a de sentido diferente, ao passo que essa diferença foi significativa no estudo original. A partir dessa divergência, discutimos questões metodológicas que envolvem grau e tipo de relações de sentido.
