Appositive constructions have the property of establishing referential equivalence in discourse. Therefore, the apposition can be a textual and discourse strategy of metaphorical recategorization, revealing opinions and attitudes. This paper analyzes metaphorical recategorization on appositive constructions in oratory speeches of Brazilian Portuguese. We found that the cognitive metaphors underlying the metaphorical expressions analyzed are the same as those licensing metaphorical expressions in everyday language. This result is an evidence that metaphor organizes thought and thus provides guidance to argumentative discourse.

Tradução: A construção apositiva tem a propriedade de estabelecer equivalência referencial no discurso. Por isso, a aposição pode ser um expediente textual-discursivo de recategorização metafórica, revelando opiniões e atitudes. Com base em Lakoff; Johnson (1980) e Grady (1997, 1999), este trabalho analisa recategorizações metafóricas em construções apositivas em discursos oratórios do português brasileiro contemporâneo. Percebemos que as metáforas cognitivas subjacentes às expressões metafóricas analisadas são as mesmas que licenciam expressões metafóricas da linguagem cotidiana. Tal resultado é uma evidência de que a metáfora organiza o pensamento e assim fornece orientação argumentativa ao discurso.
