8) A noção de unidade informacional no tratamento da subordinação

The aim of this paper is to provide the professionals who work with Portuguese language teaching with a reflection on notions related to the syntax of clause organization in this language, with particular emphasis on the subordination process. The discussion is supported theoretically and methodologically by the North America West-Coast Functionalism. Using data from Portuguese in its actual usage and trying to dissociate the recognition, or identification, of clauses based on connectives, the paper applies the notion of "information unit", as proposed by Chafe (1980), in order to set the difference between 'dependence' and 'embedding'. The result of the discussion is a proposal of classification that takes into account the relations beyond sentence level.

Tradução: Este trabalho tem como objetivo proporcionar aos profissionais do ensino de língua portuguesa uma reflexão sobre conceitos relacionados à sintaxe da organização das orações na língua, com enfoque especial no processo de subordinação. O arcabouço teórico metodológico é de cunho funcionalista, centrado noFuncionalismo da Costa Oeste Norte-americana. Tomando dados do português em uso, e procurando desvincular o reconhecimento, ou identificação, das orações com base na presença de conectivos, parte-se da noção de"unidade informacional", tal como apresentada em Chafe (1980), para estabelecer a diferença entre 'dependência' e 'encaixamento'. Da discussão resulta uma proposta de classificação das orações que leva em conta as relações além do nível sentencial.
