Panic disorder:
symbolic correspondence between its symptomatology and religion/spirituality as a psychic function.

This article aims to investigate in an essayistic and theoretical perspective the possible relationship between the symptomatology of panic disorder and the religious/spiritual function of the psyche in the sense of classical analytical psychology, that is, according to the conception of C. G. Jung, this being the theoretical field that founded our analyses. To outline this study, we surveyed systematic review articles published in the last five years (2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024) that investigated the role of religion/spirituality in mental health. Our method was qualitative-exploratory and exclusively bibliographic, so we did not use clinical cases but a theoretical design on the subject. To support our investigative incursion, in addition to specific articles, we brought reference authors in analytical psychology and presented the mythical narrative of the god Pan as an archetypal image of panic disorder, based on James Hillman. Our results indicate correspondence between the symptoms of panic disorder and psychic aspects of religion/spirituality as a psychic function, but further studies are needed to advance this conclusion.
