PENTECOSTALISM IN THE ASSEMBLIES OF GOD:
Racism and its consequences in the daily life of Black People in Brazil

This research aims to analyze Brazilian Pentecostal religious practices, considering that Pentecostalism, according to the 2010 Census, is the religion with the highest number of Black adherents in Brazil. The focus is on the Assemblies of God, challenging the notion that Black individuals predominantly belong to Afro-Brazilian religious traditions. Through bibliographic review and historical-critical analysis, the study investigates how racism manifests in the invisibility of Black protagonism within the Pentecostal movement, from its origins in the United States to its developments in Brazil. This research also examines how these relationships unfold interpersonally within the Protestant environment, adopting a perspective that reveals the contradictions of a movement that, while featuring Black figures in prominent roles, conforms to the patterns of “racial democracy” in Brazil.
