The current paper outlines a sociological analysis of the performance of profiles identified as Traditionalist Catholics on TikTok. Such profiles promote elements of the Traditionalist Catholic repertoire, especially the Tridentine Mass, amid offensive discourses loaded with anti-modernist messages, directed against social minorities, religious groups and even so-called "modernist" Catholics. This performance contradicts the expectation of cultivating ecumenism and liturgical practices accessible to the lay population in order to attract them to the Catholic fold, in the sense of the aggiornamento promoted by Vatican II. The explanation we suggest for this phenomenon, based on the religious market theory, is that the fetish for the traditional, in addition to being the effect of internal disputes in the field of Catholicism, is part of a strategy of religious proselytism, in which the set of traditional Roman elements, wrapped in a baroque sacred aesthetic, is the religious commodity offered on the religious market, in competition with other groups, especially those of Protestant origin.
