The work whose review we present highlights a hypothesis of understanding of the first Christian communities based on their forms of expression, which have strong connections with the popular culture of the Mediterranean. Paulo Nogueira exercises this method of analysis in the Apocryphal Acts, examples of forms of Christianity from the 2nd and 3rd centuries, which describe the actions of the apostles in some regions of the Roman Empire. The author proposes an approach that does not pretend to find the reality behind the text, but to understand the thinking of the first Christians, what they expected and believed in, from the written speeches.
