Call for papers 2023.1 - Modernity and Religion

2023-04-04

The present dossier: Modernity and Religion aims to shed light, from a theoretical and philosophical point of view, on different conceptions of how religion and modernity relate to each other and constitute theories in the studies of religion. This makes it possible to explore contents and perspectives of modernity beyond Eurocentric narratives. This supports the reflection of historiography and narratives of modernity from the margins and/or from Epistemologies of the South (subaltern, insurgent and resistant epistemology). Thus, opening itself to decolonial proposals. In this way, hermeneutical, philosophical, displacement and interpretation possibilities of modernity and religion are opened, through a deep questioning, inquiry, actions and contributions to rethink history.

In this sense, articles that aim to contribute to the critical reflection on Modernity and Religion, without giving up the processes of socio, political, economic and cultural subjugation of the modern/colonial world system, will be accepted. It is important that the submitted texts propose theoretical and methodological alternatives to the approach and treatment of the questions and/or hypotheses raised. The texts must assume, epistemologically and ontologically, the commitment of the researcher to fight intolerance and must contribute to the promotion of inter-religious dialogue.

The deadline for submission of papers for this dossier is May 30, 2023.
