Abstract

This study is a literature review of electronic and manual devices used to inject the local anesthetic in Odontology,
performed between the period of 1998 to 2010 in the sources: Medline, PubMed, Bireme, Periódicos Capes e
Scielo. It was concluded that: The electronically conducted anesthetic apparatus, are an evolution in Odontology
because they allow the injection of anesthetic liquid more effectively, allowing a slow injection with pre-set speeds,
which is a big advantage when compared to the injection mode of the manual syringe. The electronic devices still
have disadvantages with regard to ergonomics, maneuverability, weight, ease of use and high cost.
