Fatores associados ao grau de dependência à nicotina em pacientes tabagistas internados no Hospital Universitário da UFJF

Data that contribute to the identification of the profile of hospitalized smoking patients are important for increase the characterization of the problem, construction and implementation of systematic protocols for the approach and follow-up of this population. The aim of this study was to evaluate the profile of the smoking patient admitted to a University Hospital, according to the degree of nicotine dependence. The recruitment took place at the University Hospital of the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, from May 2017 to January 2019. The nicotine dependence was evaluated via Fagerström Test. 400 individuals were included in the sample, most belonging to the age group between 31 and 60 years. 49.7% of the participants were female. We found a high prevalence of symptoms related to anxiety and depression, evidence of excessive alcohol consumption and higher degree nicotine dependence. The presence of greater dependence on nicotine was more frequent in females (p = 0.06). Depression/anxiety was significantly more prevalent in the high-dependent group (p = 0.04). In addition, this group had a higher degree of fissure (p = 0.00). In the approach to smoking cessation, it is essential to consider the factors that make this population a heterogeneous group, directing it to the profile of the various subgroups, particularly those with higher nicotine dependence.
