Resumo

O artigo aborda a Segunda Guerra Mundial como catalisadora de transformações no Estado brasileiro e em sua relação com a sociedade nacional, particularmente no que diz respeito a relações de classe, identidades étnico-raciais e concepções de cidadania, à luz de debates referentes à história global, ao conceito de guerra total e à ascensão dos Estados Unidos à condição de potência hegemônica no sistema capitalista global.
