The Catholic Church in the origins of Salazar ́s Estado Novo [New State]

Resumen

Relations between the Catholic Church and the Estado Novo [New State under Salazar] constitute an important element of contemporary Portuguese historiography. Since this is an issue that is far from consensus, especially because it implicitly defines the nature of the regime, it is essential to recover its foundations, by analyzing the type of relationship established between the two institutions in the early years of Salazar ́s Estado Novo.
