"Estado Novo", industrialization and the formation of the Brazilian worker: the FNM case

Resumen

The Fábrica Nacional de Motores (FNM), located in the state of Rio de Janeiro, was built during the "Estado Novo" (New State), and among its main goals there was a social project for the formation of a " Brazilian worker" and for the establishment of work relations based on military and paternalistic characteristics and on great control over the social reproduction of workers. Along its trajectory as a state company, the FNM was always thought to be a "school" inorder to create a disciplined and trained workforce for industrial work.
