Abstract

Maurizio Gribaudi, an Italian microhistorian based in Paris, can be considered one of the main names in this historiographical strand with regard to the analysis of space and related concepts. As we will see, it was only from the 2000s onwards that the spatial issue began to appear as a central and/or background element of his works. Due to this peculiarity, we have adopted here a chronological, but above all, genealogical approach to his work in order to identify and demonstrate the development of the spatial theme and how this impacted the result of his analyses. This allowed us to better visualize his trajectory, without, of course, insinuating a mechanical relationship of cause and effect, as well as an anachronistic reading of his work, in which his last works, permeated by a dense discussion on the question of space, would determine the origins of his research.
