Abstract
Interview with Mestre Naio (Leonardo Ozório Nunes dos Santos) and Mestre Edson Lima Coutinho from the Banda de Congo Beatos de São Benedito in the city of Vila Velha, Espírito Santo, with Jeremias Brasileiro and Christine Douxami, conducted especially for the dossier Intangible Heritage in Latin America: invisibilities, histories, struggles for rights and new epistemologies. There are 78 Congos groups in Espírito Santo, according to Mestre Naio. The interview provides a wealth of unpublished material that sheds light on the strength of Espírito Santo's Congo groups and the Afro-indigenous memories and interactions in this powerful cultural manifestation.
