Abstract

The morning images of September 11 marked one of the most significant events of this century: the attacks on the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, symbols of American power. Twenty years later, its effects have been - and still are - felt across the globe. Initially, we note the exploitation of event images as a new milestone that shook the nation; then terrorism became the order of the day, many political speeches of President George W. Bush about the new enemy, terrorism, were appropriated by various rulers, becoming an international counter-terrorism strategy, which justify legislative changes in the US, fueled conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, incorporating also other discussions relating to the Middle East and Islam. It was understood that this chapter of US history is impossible to write without the images, since the spectacularization of the images of the attacks had a great impact on American society. Thus, this article sought to understand through cinema, some of the productions that were against the Bush Doctrine even in the first term of George Walker Bush.
