Abstract
The author expounds his opinion on some of the features and functions of the science of History in the course of time. At first a mere register of relevant deeds, History went out to assume a “revolutionary” role, revealing to humankind its potential of consciously build its own future. When this role was fulfilled, the revolutionary profile of History faded away. Since then, History has been mainly an instrument to form individuals capable of accepting diversity and democratic life, willing to cooperate in bringing about a new type of sociability.
