Abstract
Herewith I present some reflections about the British immigration, temporary of definitive to Rio de Janeiro, rarely approached by the Brazilian historiography. Beyond the Great Britain economical preeminence on Brazil the social History of merchants, navy workers, mercenaries, engineers and their daily life in a Roman Catholic and slavery nation are taken into account.
