Abstract

With this article, we intend to revisit the Portuguese corporative regime through its theoretical corpus and specifically its conception and understanding of labour economics during the Estado Novo (1933-1974). The various forms that the intellectuals and politicians saw the relationship between labour and capital through were based in an anti-liberal posture and we are able to see the influence of social Catholicism in many of its concepts. The objective of this article is to discuss the relation between the political and theoretical view and the labour reality in an effort to obtain a better grasp of the workers' movement during European fascism.
