Abstract

This work addresses the process of renting electricity, urban road and telephone services in Belo Horizonte, MG, in 1911-12, identifying its general lines from the reading of several publications of the period. The text explains the implications of the lease for the telephone service, advancing the ongoing research on the social use of this technological artifact in the new capital during the First Republic.
