Abstract

Our work, the result of some of the results of our doctoral thesis (2014) and postdoctoral internship (2016), will address the issue of the so-called “strongholds of bandolier domination” - a premise built in the respective studies to describe the regions of Portuguese America who were dominated by bandits (assault gangs). As a case study, we analyzed the actions of the famous Mantiqueira gang, still little researched and which is an example of bandits who acted in the wilderness areas of the old Portuguese colony.
