Abstract
This article aims to analyze the trajectory of Antônio Mendes do Norte in Portugal until he reached the Captaincy of Ceará, in order to understand the mobility of the population, the favorable traffic to the Sertões, the changes in identities and the realization of commercial activities during the 18th century, more specifically in the 1750s. Based on inquisitorial processes, the Constitutions of the Archbishopric of Bahia and books of tumble, it was possible to trace the motivations for the changes to the Portuguese colony, the ways of using marriage as a strategy of establishment in new territories and an understanding of the ways of life of those who left Portugal, moved through Portuguese America and occupied the backlands of the captaincy of Siará Grande.
