Abstract

I will present in this paper some considerations about the methods used by Giulio Romano as well as their transference to north Italy. Cristoforo Sorte was one of the many artists who approached Giulio Romano in Mantua wishing to learn the craft of painting. Sorte published two editions of his “Osservationi nella pittura”, a treatise in which it is possible to recognize a combination of continuity and disruption with the past, and which will be used here to explore some questions related to this period marked by significant transformations of thought.
