Abstract
The bonds between Portuguese and Brazilian history were far from loosened in the years that followed the political emancipation of the former Portuguese colony in America. The debates about the restoration of the Luso-Brazilian Empire survived in the writings of “publicists” and political actors, in the old kingdom as well as in the former colony. In this article we intend to analyse the challenges posed in the first decades of the building of the Nation-States on both sides of the Atlantic.
