Abstract
This article discusses the Brazilian judiciary system during the imperial period. The first proposal that exposed the reorganization of the system emerged with the Code of Criminal Procedure. During the first decade of its implementation, however, it presented several deficiencies. The State promoted changes and, throughout numerous progresses and setbacks, the years went by. The objective here is to analyze how this process took place in the province of Minas Gerais between 1833 and 1860.
