From Outskirts to the suburbs: the social geography of Rio de Janeiro from the texts of their chroniclers

Abstract

Rio de Janeiro. Subúrbios. Literatura In this paper, we look at how the change about reading that had been on the old Outskirts (which is seen as a suburb) is closely related to a process of occupation of the region by social groups who traditionally inhabited the less valued areas of the city limits of occupation older. A phenomenon that somehow was picked up by writers who used the river as a backdrop to their stories.
