Abstract

The mural was, in the Twentieth century, considered the most socially engaged style of painting. Mexican painters promoted it on the international level. In Brazil, Candido Portinari’s work for the Ministry of Education is considered one of the great works of wall art. The Mexican muralism influenced many artists throughout the Americas and Europe, and there are many differences in the influence of Mexicans in Portinari. We intend to prove these differences from an analysis of historiography on the subject.
