Abstract

The article intends to analyze the dynamics of credit and discredit, from the operations of two financial institutions in Campos dos Goytacazes, in Rio de Janeiro, between 1863 and 1888, that means, the Banco de Campos and Banco Comercial e Hipotecário de Campos. These two banks used to act on a scale marked by a sharp market dynamic, especially the coffee expansion in the north of the state.
