Abstract
The first half of the nineteenth century was a period marked by major changes in the Brazilian economy, particularly for the city of Rio de Janeiro, the newly founded National political capital and main port of the national economy. The present study investigates, between the years 1821-1850, the operation of a credit market from the judicial execution proceedings (under the custody of the National Archives) made in the Court, which mainly involved the commercial sectors of that society.
