With the blessing of the Church: slave marriages in parishes from the Minas Gerais of the second half of the 19th century

Abstract

Through the parish records of slave marriages, this article try to enter the captive matrimonial universe of the second half of the 19th century. We try to demonstrate that, despite the difficulties and restrictions, the Catholic marriage was one of the alternatives used by enslaved individuals to mitigate the thorny life in captivity.
