Abstract

The aim of this paper is to examine whether elements outside the files of criminal cases, such as social characteristics of defendants, classical and positivist schools of law, among others, influenced the final verdict in the 294 cases of libel and slander that were opened in Juiz de Fora/MG between the years of 1854 and 1941.
