Between form, composition and history - thoughts on Minas Gerais’ Colonial Art

Abstract

This paper seeks to reflect on the trajectory of the author’s research on colonial art in Brazil. It seeks such reflection from the identification of theoretical and methodological fundamentals based on “formalist” currents and in their possible limits when it comes to colonial art, or art produced at a time when the theoretical reflection of art did not separate form from its narrative function
