Abstract

The author presents an overview of the behavior of deposits, spending, deficit and its financing in the first decades of the nineteenth century of Mexican history. The conclusions are that, regardless of the form of government, the public accounts showed deficits until the mid-forties, which were financed with external and domestic debts. The Mexican government showed some strength by imposing reforms and solvency to pay part of their debts; the problem faced was a society and administration which did not offer possibilities for increased revenue
