Abstract

Between the works of Jacob Burckhardt (1818-1897) and Aby Warburg (1866-1929) there are intricate relationships that, examined closely, can illuminate the historiography generated by the Italian art of the Renaissance. This essay looks at the point of contact between the two authors by comparing Burckhardt’s later texts and Warburg’s earlier ones.
