Author of an encyclopedic work, “Naturalis Historia”, Pliny the Elder is an almost exclusive source for ancient art, In Book XXXV of this encyclopedia, we can find notices about artists, descriptions of works of art, Informations on materials and techniques and, in addition, opinions that make possible the understanding of the main features of Roman aesthetic thought.
